Greek dancing has long been a joyful expression of community, tradition and togetherness. It brings people of all ages together to celebrate our culture and keep our heritage alive.
In Geelong, Greek dancing is proudly led by Sotiris Sotiriou, founder and director of the Pegasus Dance Academy. Since 1988, Sotiris has dedicated himself to preserving the authenticity of traditional Greek folk dance, teaching over 200 regional styles from across Greece. His passion and expertise have inspired generations of dancers to embrace their heritage and share it with the wider community.
Pegasus Dance Academy offers classes for children, teenagers and adults, welcoming everyone from beginners to advanced dancers. The program focuses on learning authentic steps, understanding the cultural stories behind the dances, and building confidence through performance.
Students regularly perform at community festivals, church events and cultural celebrations, proudly representing Geelong’s Hellenic community. Through these performances, the beauty and diversity of Greek dance — and the strong sense of belonging it creates — are shared with audiences throughout Victoria.
